About Christmas Clearinghouse
Since 1980, the HandsOn River Region Christmas Clearinghouse has helped ensure that families in need throughout the River Region experience the joy and dignity of the holiday season. We partner with nonprofits, churches, civic groups, and individual sponsors to match holiday assistance with families who might otherwise go without.
Every year, thanks to the compassion and generosity of our sponsors and partners, hundreds of families across the River Region experience a brighter holiday season. Your support makes a difference. Thank you for spreading holiday joy!
Christmas Clearinghouse: How It Works
The Christmas Clearinghouse is a centralized coordination and referral system that connects families in need with local agencies, sponsors, and programs providing holiday gifts, food, and other seasonal support. Our goal is to eliminate duplication of services, ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources, and maximize the community’s impact.

Brighten the holidays for a local family! Sponsors are matched with a participating family and receive the family’s Christmas wish list, including gift preferences, ages, and needs. Sponsors then shop for the family and provide the purchased gifts according to Christmas Clearinghouse delivery guidelines.

Who qualifies for assistance?
Families must meet income and residency requirements and be referred through a partnering agency.
Can I sponsor more than one family?
Yes! Many of our sponsors choose to support multiple families or donate in bulk.
Can I donate items instead of sponsoring?
Yes, we welcome new, unwrapped toys, winter items, and gift cards. Anyone wishing to drop off Christmas Clearinghouse gifts should deliver them to HandsOn River Region at 1537 Jean Street, Montgomery, AL 36107 Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. If you are unable to deliver gifts during these during these hours, please email christmas@handsonriverregion.org to schedule a delivery time.
