For more than five decades, HandsOn River Region has proudly hosted the Volunteer of the Year Awards to honor the individuals and groups who make a powerful difference through selfless service. Each year during National Volunteer Week, we recognize those who go above and beyond to uplift their neighbors, strengthen our communities, and inspire a spirit of compassion across the River Region.

Ellis Winborne
Adult Volunteer of the Year
A devoted volunteer with Service Dogs Alabama, Ellis raises and trains service dogs that provide life-changing support.
Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry
Adult Volunteer Group of the Year
Transforming plastic bags into comfort, this group weaves hand-crafted sleeping mats and assembles care packages for the unhoused.
Savannah Williams
Youth Volunteer of the Year
Founder of Alpha Love 2 Life, Savannah supports youth dealing with grief and challenges at home through mentorship and compassion.
School Pro-Life Club
Youth Volunteer Group of the Year
Students champion causes such as NICU support, individuals with disabilities, and community outreach through fundraisers and service.
